UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center

My final 3-week rotation (120-hours) was with the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. This rotation took place during the COVID-19 “Stay at home” order so all of my work was completed from home. On April 7th 2020, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) temporarily reduced the number of hours required for dietetic internships from 1,200 to 1,000 so my rotation ended 3 weeks earlier and 120-hours less than initially scheduled.
Working as part of a research team is new, exciting, and very rewarding. Even though projects I worked on had to be completed remotely, the strong team dynamic was still very present in daily and weekly Zoom meetings. While at home, I worked on several projects, including a literature review for an anticipated manuscript, extensive database article searching, finding articles for monthly journal club meetings, and peer-reviewing a manuscript. I conducted a malnutrition in research presentation and led a discussion on the utilization of research-based malnutrition screening tools in research. Please see my presentation below.
