Healthy Foods Center Volunteer
- Help medically referred clients who receive a “prescription for food” with fresh food selection, nutrition information and recipe recommendations
- Sort and weigh food and produce, repackage bulk food, fill orders, stock shelves, conduct new sign-ups and client evaluations
- Conduct live cooking demonstrations with easy-to-make, budget-friendly, healthy recipes

UNM Lobo Gardens Aug. 2018 – Oct. 2018
Community Gardens Work
I was fortunate to work for 8 weeks in the gardens on campus and throughout the city by taking a rigorous topics course, Lobo Gardens. I learned about issues such as health disparities, food deserts, sustainability, food access, and global climate change while engaging with local farmers, and cultivating the community gardens on campus
72-hours of hands-on service to the college and community by completing the activities listed below
- Maintained gardens by weeding, composting, planting seed, and harvesting crops at UNM’s RED and Hokona Gardens
- Developed a produce guide and recipe binder for Lobo Gardens
- Toured and learned from community farms in the Albuquerque area, including Amyo Farms, Rio Grande Community Farm, Tres Hermanas, Old Town Farm, and Chispas Farm

Seasonal Farm Work Volunteer through Lobo Gardens
- Processed dried Ethiopian wheat, barley, and rye for making flour
- Extracted seeds from Guatemalan heirloom tomatoes for seed-saving
- Harvested Calendula seeds for seed-saving

- Assisted with booth set-up and tear-down at the Freshman Orientation Discovery Fair
- Welcomed new freshmen to the university and introduced them to the Nutrition Club

Community Nutrition Education
- Provided the community with free nutrition information and educational handouts for programs such as WIC and SNAP
- Provided nutrition education with the assistance of a registered dietitian

- Provided Diabetes prevention education, fitness activities, and healthy snacks to the students, teachers and parents at Albuquerque High School
